Honor Deferred

During World War II, it was an unwritten order in the US military to avoid recommending African-American soldiers for the highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor, no matter how worthy they were of it. Decades later, the Clinton administration ordered this old injustice systematically assessed and corrected.
