Monika

Monika, 20, nearsighted and dependent on her family, fails a risky eye laser operation and loses her sight. Her mother, Birgit, overwhelmed, places her in a municipal home for the blind, where Monika receives proper care and overcomes depression. With newfound strength, she seeks independence, which displeases Birgit.
